Meritorious Mast Award earned by Grissom Marine

  • Published
Marine Corps Reserve Lance Corporal Nathan T. Mihm of Decatur, Ind., was recently presented with the Meritorious Mast Award.

He is the son of Rex and Barb Mihm, also of Decatur.

Lance Corporal Mihm is a field wireman and mims clerk with Detachment 1 Communication Company at Grissom ARB. In this capacity, he is responsible for establishing radio, wire and data communications between Marine Corps units, maintaining various pieces of equipment, and trouble shooting any problems that may arise.

A three-year veteran of the Marine Corps, Mihm earned the Meritorious Mast Award for his actions while serving as a Marine Corps representative at the Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Expo in March 2007.

The two-year old grand-daughter of one of the vendors strayed from the display area and became lost in the crowd. Mihm displayed outstanding situation awareness and helped to locate the child and ensure she was safely reunited with her family.

The citation that accompanied the award praised Mihm's "positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond were evident in the results by locating and ensuring the child's safety."

In his civilian occupation, Mihm is an employee of the Fleetwood in Decatur, Ind.

Grissom Air Reserve Base is home to units of the Air Force Reserve Command, Marine Corps Reserve, and Army Reserve.
