Chaplain (Capt.) Obadiah Smith, Jr., is the new senior chaplain with the 434th Air Refueling Wing.

A resident of Andersen, Ind., the chaplain comes to Grissom after having previously served at Wright-Patterson and McChord Air Force Bases.

As senior chaplain, he will become involved in a variety of activities at Grissom, including the Sunday morning worship services during primary Unit Training Assemblies. The services are held at 11 a.m. in the auditorium on the first floor of Bldg 596.

A 1981 graduate of Azusa Pacific University, he later earned his divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., and his MBA from Anderson University.

When asked what are some of the challenges that reservists, and reserve chaplains, face, he explained, "Living in a global world that is complex and diverse, but understanding that the key to success is being flexible, responsible and dependable in our civilian and military life. It's learning how to fuse several worlds together to make a difference."
