Ten Grissom Airmen awarded medals

Recognizing their meritorious achievements and service, Air Force leaders here recently awarded 10 Grissom Airmen with Meritorious Service Medals, Air Force Commendation Medals or Air Force Achievement Medals.

Below are the four awarded the MSM, which was established by Executive Order 11448 on Jan. 16, 1969, as a counterpart of the Bronze Star Medal for the recognition of meritorious noncombatant service:

- Capt. Amanda Owens, 434th Air Refueling Wing
- Senior Master Sgt. Darlene Cornelius, 434th Force Support Squadron
- Senior Master Sgt. Brent Stephen, 434th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron
- Master Sgt. Gaylan Owens, 434th AMXS

The following were awarded the commendation medal, which was authorized in 1958, for award to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving in any capacity with the Air Force, distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement and service:

- Tech. Sgt. Aaron Dehner, 434th Civil Engineer Squadron
- Staff Sgt. Jan Markiewicz, 434th AMXS

The following four Airmen were awarded the achievement medal, which was authorized in 1980 and is awarded to Air Force personnel for outstanding achievement or meritorious service rendered specifically on behalf of the Air Force:

- Tech. Sgt. Clinton Baker, 434th Aerospace Medicine Squadron
- Staff Sgt. Jennifer Permenter, 434th AMDS
- Staff Sgt. Dennis Sommo, 434th Maintenance Operations Flight
- Senior Airman Rachelle Chance, 434th MOF

The 434th ARW at Grissom ARB is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Airmen from the unit are routinely called upon to deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives.
