Unseasonably warm temperatures, and higher than normal humidity, didn’t deter Grissom Airmen as they hit the dusty trail to run around base a time – or two!

Twenty-five Team Grissom members participated in a Memorial Day 8k, 5k, 1.5 mile, and ½ mile run/walk May 23 here.

Considering near 100 percent humidity, fitness center personnel were impressed with the turnout, said Dustin Fulkerson, 434th Force Support Squadron exercise physiologist.

Fulkerson, who recently joined team Grissom, finished in first place in the 8k with a time of 38 minutes, 44 seconds.

Martin Foye, 434th ARW financial services officer, has participated in every wing run for the past two and a half years.

“Rain or shine, hot, snow, I’ve seen and run in it all,” Foye said.
Foye, a retired lt. col., says he feels it is important to support the military fitness standards – regardless of being retired – and encourages fellow Airmen to participate.

Aimed at increasing morale and encouraging life-long fitness and health among Team Grissom, the fitness center sponsors frequent fun runs. The next run is scheduled for July 25 at noon.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. The Citizen Airmen from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
