Veteran's Day can be an excellent opportunity for service members and veterans to showcase what service means to them.

For many this means attending free events or spending time with their families while for others it is an opportunity to show pride in their service to the world.

More than 30 Grissom Airmen plan to do so by participating in this year's Indianapolis Veteran's Day Parade. The parade will take place in downtown Indianapolis over 10 blocks near Military Park.

First Lt. Erica Morgan, 434th Air Refueling Wing executive officer, said the parade is an excellent opportunity to for Airmen to show love and support for the Air Force, Grissom and America's veterans. She also said she is excited to share the experience with her children and family.

"The parade is the first real veteran's day thing that we have done as a family and it isn't just for us," said Morgan. "It's also for our children to see what being in the Air Force means and it's a way for us to support them for supporting us. I also like to take any opportunity to showcase Grissom as much as possible."

Other Airmen, like Senior Master Sgt. Darin Schenher, 434th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron production supervisor, plan to show their support in smaller settings closer to home.

"I was invited to go to a Veteran's Day presentation at the school my nephew's daughter goes to," said Schenher "Then on Monday I am going to a school where my cousin teaches for a program."

Schenher and Morgan, like many service members, are happy to share their experiences with future generations and show them the happiness and fulfillment that can be found through military service.

Grissom Air Reserve Base would like to thank all of America's veterans and we hope that everyone has a safe and happy Veteran's Day.
