Grissom Marines give Toys for Tots a helping hand Published Oct. 27, 2017 By Senior Airman Harrison Withrow 434 ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- Grissom Marines are getting into the Christmas spirit and giving back to the community this season by setting up Toys for Tots donation bins in the local area. Collections points have been placed in several stores in surrounding counties, including the Base Exchange. Children’s toys can be placed in the bins before December 4, when Marine Reservists will collect the toys to distribute so local families in need can have a merrier Christmas. “It’s an outstanding program that the Marine Corps Reserve has been involved with for over 50 years,” said Gunnery Sgt. Nathan Boychuck, Detachment One, Communication Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, 4th Marine Logistics Group motor transport chief. “Last year we collected over 80,000 donated for our Peru and Kokomo distribution centers.” Because of the strong turnout, the distribution centers were able to provide about eight toys for each child, said Boychuck. Det One was one of the highest performing regions for the year in both toy and dollar donations. “This is an excellent partnership and we’re proud to be a part of it,” he said. “Last year we had some pretty fantastic results, but this year we’re aiming to do even better.” The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Men and women from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.Stay connected with the 434th ARW on Facebook and Twitter.
