Grissom hits the links, raises money for Air Force Ball Published Aug. 18, 2017 By Senior Airman Cali Wetli 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- “FORE!”Teams from the 434th Air Refueling Wing participated in a golf scramble at a local golf course in Peru, Indiana, July 29 to raise money for Grissom’s upcoming Air Force Ball.All proceeds from the event are going towards the Air Force Ball and the winning team received four tickets to the event.“Anytime you can increase morale while doing something for a good cause is great,” said Maj. Eric O’Connor, 74th Air Refueling squadron pilot who participated in the event. “With the winner getting tickets to the ball, it promotes fun comradery.”The competiveness was raised when additional twists were added to the game. Each team was able to purchase up to four mulligans for $5 each, allowing them to take do-overs on shots. Teams also could purchase 24 inches of string for $10, which can be divided up and used to relocate the ball.“What a great event,” said Col. Larry Shaw, 434th Air Refueling Wing commander. “We turned a fun event into something that will benefit our folks and the Air Force Ball. It was a win/win!”Six teams participated in the event, helping earn the Air Force Ball committee about $500 to help offset costs. These teams consisted of military members and civilians.“Having both military and civilians join together really made this event special,” Shaw said. “We pride ourselves on being a part of this community and you could see the community stepping up to be a part of us as well.”The 2017 Air Force Ball is scheduled to be held at the Kokomo Event Center, September 23. Tickets are available for purchase from your unit representative.The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command.
