GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. --
Winter is just around the corner, and that means it’s time for Grissom Airmen to get their Flu shots once again.

Due to limited vaccination supply, vaccines are currently being distributed only to Airmen in military status.

“We need to vaccinate over 90% of our military personnel by January 1st, so that’s over 1300 Flu shots we need to distribute,” said Staff Sgt. Lavarous Johnson, 434th Aerospace Medicine Squadron medical technician. “Everyone who’s in military status needs to take time to come in and get immunized if they haven’t already.”

No appointment is needed to receive a vaccination. Members can visit the clinic between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. as well as 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Vaccinations will also be available during drill weekends.

The process typically takes under 10 minutes, though wait times may vary.

“While our supplies are currently limited at Grissom, we encourage members not in military status to get their vaccinations from CVS, Walgreens or Walmart, who are all giving flu shots for zero copay,” said Johnson.

Vaccinations will be administered via injection of deactivated influenza virus, and may cause mild soreness and minor swelling at the injection site.
