6/30/2012 - GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- A group of junior ROTC students got a first-hand look at how Grissom Airmen and Marines operate during a base tour May 23.

The students, from Anderson Preparatory Academy, Anderson, Ind., first visited the Marine Corps Reserve Center where they learned about weapons, used a firearms training simulator, witnessed a martial arts demonstration, learned how to use a field radio and got to check out the inside of a Humvee. They also put on Kevlar and took a ride in the back of a large military cargo truck.

Later, the students learned about the mission of the 434th Air Refueling Wing as they toured a KC-135R Stratotanker and talked with some of the pilots, crewmembers and maintainers.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Airmen and aircraft from the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives.

Grissom offers tours to groups of at least 15 or more. Tour info and request forms can be found on the questions page.
