A member of Grissom’s emergency management team received the Air Force Reserve Command’s 2015 Emergency Manager of the Year award.

Dan DeAngulo, 434th Air Refueling Wing base emergency manager, was recognized by AFRC for his outstanding performance during several response courses and readiness inspections.

“It was really a team effort within the emergency management shop,” said DeAngulo “We all share in the award because we all put in work to make these events happen. I’m glad to see that we got that recognition.”

DeAngulo was integral to the success of Grissom’s 10 day All-hazards, Tactics, Techniques for Comprehensive Knowledge University (ATTACK-U) courses and he was a key contributor in the nuclear operational readiness inspection success, said Col. Scott Russell, 434th Mission Support Group commander, in nominating DeAngulo for the award.

In his position he routinely works with local, federal and state organizations.

“He was praised by the Department of Energy and FBI for planning and execution of a multi-state, multi-agency exercise,” said Russell.

DeAngulo said he enjoys working on exercises with the local community to increase their readiness in the event of an emergency.

“I’ve worked with local emergency management agencies and schools to create and execute emergency exercises,” said DeAngulo. “Working with the Kokomo School District to create an active shooter readiness exercise was very rewarding.”

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Men and women from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
