One person suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries when a fire broke out in Dock 5 at Grissom ARB.

The fire began at approximately 2:15 p.m. and was located in an aircraft hangar that is undergoing extensive renovation. No aircraft were affected.

Base firefighters were on the scene quickly and limited the fire to the construction site. Because of heat, Grissom was supported by the Peru and Galveston fire departments under our mutual aid agreements.

An investigation will be conducted by base officials and additional details will be provided as they become available.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. The Citizen Airmen from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
