Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana – The 434th Force Support Squadron has a little something for everyone looking to get some adventure in their life.

Initially, the Recharge for Resiliency program started as a program for returning deployed member to help them return to normalcy in society by giving them a safe and controlled adventure after being in a high tempo environment.

Members of the 434th FSS plan different interactive trips for members to participate in at a reduced cost to the member.

“The R4R program is specialized funding that headquarters services give us, said Kelsey Smith, 434th FSS Outdoor Recreation manager. We can utilize that for resiliency trips, moral trips such as rafting or skydiving. Basically, we just take the kind of trips, make the price very small and then let the Airmen sign up on their own.”

Will Somers, 434th FSS Recreation director added that Airmen are able to bring their dependents on these trips.

“You can bring your friend, but they may have to pay the full rate,” said Somers.

The program, like many things, was affected by the pandemic. The beginning of the pandemic forced the team to stop the trips for the time being, but they are now making a comeback.

“Now people are wanting to get out of the house,” said Smith. “They want to do things, so it’s not really hindering us at all. We follow the mask mandates and we carry everybody everywhere, but facilities have been Covid friendly so this have be going according to plan.”

Be on the lookout for upcoming events from the R4R program.

“We send out weekly emails on Friday with a month list of what’s going on,” said Smith. “We also have a list at the fitness center, and you can also find it on our FaceBook page. They can also call the fitness center, all of our employees have the information and prices of all that.”
