GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. --
With a variety of runners ranging from students, civilians, officers and enlisted competition was higher than usual at a recent Grissom 5k run.

More than 35 participants met at the base fitness center to participate in the Dog Days of Summer 5k run July 25 despite hotter than usual temperatures.

“We had a really high turn-out compared to prior runs,” said Dustin Fulkerson, 434th Force Support Squadron exercise physiologist. “We do these events to build a culture linked to cohesiveness and to initiate base-wide wellness.”

Fulkerson encourages members to join the fun and attempt to have their names placed on Grissom’s top 10 performers list where he currently holds first place for the 5k and 8k category.

Second place 5k is held by Zaffino Dominic, 434th Air Refueling Wing command post controller.

The next Grissom run, the Labor Day 5k is scheduled Aug. 29, at noon followed by the Fall Foliage 5k September 26, at noon.
